Objectives of the Association
The Australian Studies Association of Japan (ASAJ) was founded in 1989. In the summer of 2014 ASAJ held an international conference entitled “Transformation of Australian Studies in the Globalizing Age,” celebrating the 25th anniversary of its establishment. Its primary objective and mission is to promote Australian studies in Japan through teaching, research and the facilitation of contact between scholars.
The Association’s main activities include:
- Publishing the Journal of Australian Studies. This is the leading journal in the field of Australian Studies in Japan and is published annually.
- Organizing a two-day annual conference in early June where members of the association get together and present their recent research. The program consists of symposiums, sessions, workshops, and a general meeting.
- Publishing a Newsletter that is circulated to all members three times a year. The Newsletter contains information about recent research in progress by members, visiting scholars, the activities of regional seminars, special conference, symposiums and lectures and recent publications by members.
- Sponsoring regional seminars in Osaka and Tokyo aiming to provide opportunities to share information and exchange opinions among members. We often invite non-members to those seminars to promote multi-disciplinary understanding of the field.
